The Cobblestone Society was established in 1960 with a mission to preserve the oldest Cobblestone Church (1834) in North America and to collect and disseminate information on the unique form of cobblestone masonry construction (1825-1860) primarily found in New York State. About 700 cobblestone structures were built in mainly in upstate New York beginning in about 1825 until about 1860. Wayne County has the most cobblestone buildings with about 150 structures. Orleans, Monroe and Ontario counties each have approximately 100 cobblestone structures. Several other cobblestone structures exist in Niagara and Erie counties and in other NYS counties as well. Cobblestone structures are pictured and described in several books found on this website in the Publications section. The Cobblestone Society has its headquarters in Albion, New York and its complex has been designated a National Historic Landmark and.
